One mile north from Great Chesterfield station, Ickleton is a charming parish village. Ickleton once had a Benedictine nunnery, which was built in 1190 by Aubrey De Vere, the first Earl of Exford, but only some walls remain now. Surrounded by handsome aged buildings, the church is central to the town boasting Roman monolithic columns, beautifully carved pews and lush lawns.
