Kenilworth in Warwickshire lies between Warwick in the south and Coventry in the north. It is not far from the industrial city of Birmingham as also Stratford on Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. There is perhaps nothing remarkable about Kenilworth apart from the fact that it bears the same name of the novel written by Sir Walter Scott and it is here that one can see Kenilworth Castle once an imposing edifice but now through the ravages of time reduced to a shell of its former self. The castle has its origins in the 12th century having been built by the Clinton family and in later centuries when in the hands of the monarchy it was added to and enlarged. It fell into disuse during the Civil War since when it has gradually fallen into disrepair.
