Covent Garden Jubilee Market

In an area where markets have been held since the 14th century, in the original seat of the Dukes of Bedford and situated in the heart of London’s West End, close to the theatres, Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, and nestling in the shadow of the famous Royal Opera House, Covent Garden’s Jubilee Market is unique in that it is the only market in the capital owned wholly by the traders, who work to make this the best market in the Capital. Ten years ago, after a fight to save the market from closure, the traders succeeded in raising sufficient money to buy a lease on the property, and build an entirely new market which Her Majesty the Queen, Queen Elizabeth II honoured by ceremoniously opening it ten years ago. Such has been the reputation of the market that it has now been awarded its own coat of arms, an achievement of which the market is duly proud. Basically there are three groups of traders, those dealing in antiques, those dealing in arts and crafts and those dealing in general goods. The antique market is held on Monday, the general market on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and the Arts and Crafts market on Saturday and Sunday.
