Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

This is located in Battersea Park and was founded in 1951. Whilst it does not a have a large and diverse number of animals it is particularly suited to children. Here they can take pony rides and in a special contact area can interact with animals. Some of the animals kept here are otters, monkeys, pigs, birds and reptiles. Battersea Park covers 200-acres on the south bank of the River Thames and was opened in 1853 as the second non-royal London park. The most famous feature of the park is the Japanese Peace Pagoda, which was built in 1895. It was built by Japanese Buddhists and contains 4 golden Buddhas surrounded by a Portland stone Pagoda. To add atmosphere there are some beautiful Canadian fir trees planted around it. However, if this is too relaxing for you, there is always Adrenaline Village where you can indulge in some bungee jumping. This village is open at weekends. Also in Battersea Park are a boating lake, a café, various sports facilities and the Children's Zoo. The park is 1 kilometre south from Sloane Square tube station or you can catch a train from Waterloo station to Queenstown Road Battersea.
