Taunton in
Somerset
|
One of those charming towns people stumble through on their way elsewhere, Taunton is the county town of Somerset. It is nestled in a wooded valley called a combe between the Brendon, Quantock, and Blackdown hills. The town’s economy is centered around its production of cider and its cattle market. There is hardly anything of historical value to be found here besides the County museum, which was erected from the remains of Taunton’s Castle. Much of the castle had been torn down in 1662, so the structure leaves some work for the imagination.
