Rugby is home to one of England's most revered public schools, the Rugby School, which was founded in 1567 under the conditions of an affluent London businessman born in Rugby. The present structures dates from the ninteenth century. when the town was well-known under the headmastership of Thomas Arnold. It is interesting to note that the sport of rugby football initiated at the school in 1823.
