The friendly atmosphere of Okehampton, defined by English heritage with Saxon influence provides for a delightful experience. Located on the northern boundary, this Dartmoor-edge working town has some fascinating things worth stopping in to see. Sitting about 225 feet above the small town of Okehampton is the restored and refurbished Railway Station open to the public. The ruins of the biggest medieval castle in Devon County, with sections dating from 11th to the 14th century, zig-zag into the sky from a steep grassy mound right beside the river. If one is interested in getting to know more about the history and people of Okehampton, not too far from the Castle rests a converted old watermill, presently known as the Museum of Dartmoor Life, with interactive displays on local life and a collection of tourist information.
