Located in a valley, the village of Nailsworth has a history that dates back to Saxon times. Well-known for its seventeenth and eighteenth century cloth mills, Nailsworth became an urban district in 1894 when roads and railways were constructed boosting the population. The old mill buildings have now been converted into modern industrial sites, but the town continues to preserve its nostalgic identity. A prime example of this is the Egypt Mill, built before the rule of Edward III. According to local stories, the mill gained its name from the traveling gypsies from Egypt who had camped on the site of the mill. Egypt Mill is currently a restaurant and family pub serving delicious in an engaging atmosphere
