Lacock in

Lacock is approximately 3 miles south of Chippenham and is a well preserved example of an English feudal village dating from 13th century. As such it is swamped with visitors in the summertime but enjoys a pretty tranquil time for the remainder of the year. Of particular interest to the camera toting visitor is the Fox Talbot Museum dedicated to the founding father of modern photography. The museum is to be found in a 15th century medieval barn at the entrance to Lacock Abbey. The Abbey was founded in 1232 by the Countess of Salisbury and having been sold by Henry VIII to William Sharrington was converted into his home. Ownership passed to Henry Fox Talbot and through him to the National Trust which ensures this photogenic beauty spot is retained for future generations.
