ISLAY AND JURA two beautiful islands off the north west coast of Scotland. Access is either by plane or ferry, landing on Islay first then onto Jura. The island of Jura is 29 miles long, has 200 inhabitants and approximately 6000 deer, Jura comes from the Norse word called “Deer Island”. Wildlife is abundant with seals, otters, stoats, rabbits and wild goats and there are over 100 different kinds of birds including the rare golden eagle. The walking is hard and arduous but worthwhile when you expose the caves and beaches which are situated on the West coast. This island is for the bird-watcher or the wildlife enthusiast and like Islay it will be peaceful. Islay is a beautiful island with lovely beaches and whisky distilleries! Historical sites to visit , plenty of walking and golf for the enthusiast. Islay and Jura are never overcrowded, a pleasant trip on two lovely islands for the folks who want to get some peace and quiet.
