Bagshot in

Located in the northwest corner of Surrey, the town of Bagshot is on the outer edge of the “urban spread”, an area surrounding London established to contain the spread of urbanization. Bagshot’s agricultural industry and coaching services, a business where inns hosted stables in order to provide traveling coaches with fresh horses, contributed to Bagshot’s prosperity in the early nineteenth century. However, the installation of the London-Southampton railroad in 1838 ended the coaching industry causing the town to fall into a depression. Bagshot’s years of strife ended twenty years later when a railroad enabled the market gardening business of the town to more easily and efficiently supply London’s Covet Garden Market. Fifteen miles from the London Heathrow Airport, Bagshot offers a variety of pubs, restaurants, and shops.
