A charming historical city, Norwich boasts an impressive castle and cathedral. Located in the middle of the city, the original twelfth century Norwich Castle has been converted by the Norfolk Museum Service into an informative museum for the public. Displayed at the castle are impressive collections of pictures by artists of the Norwich School and unique selections of ceramic teapots, porcelain and Norwich silver. Noted primarily for its Norman nave and tower, the Norwich Cathedral was built in 1096 and is over 300 feet tall. Buried at the cathedral is Edith Cavell, an English nurse executed during World War I for helping British soldiers escape from the Germans. Some other places of interest include the Sainsbury Center for Visual Arts and the Mustard Shop and Museum.
A Jacobean mansion, Bickling Hall is located just outside of Norwich. Beautiful tapestries and flourishing gardens fill the estate. Further north of Norwich is Sandringham where four generations of British monarchs had resided. Sitting on a grand 7000-acre ground, this red brick and stone Victorian-Tudor mansion consists of more than two hundred rooms, some of which have been opened up to the public.
